BACHELOR OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE

VISION

The Bachelor of Library and Information Science Program anchored on technology envisions to be a Center of Development in the Bicol Region and geared towards transforming the roles of libraries and information professionals for the betterment of human society.


MISSION

The Bachelor of Library and Information Science Program intends to produce globally competitive graduates imbued with knowledge, skills and values of library and information science professions.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)

  1. Provide effective and efficient delivery of library services and quality information resources as professional librarians.
  2. Conduct researches in the field of librarianship and related disciplines.
  3. Practice / Demonstrate good communication skills for effective human relations.
  4. Participate in local, regional and national outreach programs.
  5. Participate in continuing professional advancement.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (PO)

The minimum standards for the BLIS program are expressed in the following minimum set of learning outcomes and competencies which are based on internationally-accepted body of knowledge and skills being subscribed to by the Special Libraries Association (SLA) and the National Competency-Based Standards for Filipino Librarians as prescribed by the Professional Board for Librarians (PRBFL).

  1. Articulate and discuss the latest developments in the specific field of practice.
  2. Effectively communicate orally and in writing using both English and Filipino.
  3. Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
  4. Act in recognition of professional social, and ethical responsibility;
  5. Preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage” based on RA 7722.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The BLIS program is the study of the development, deployment and management of information resources in print, non-print, electronic and digital formats and services. Graduates of this program are being prepare to apply information technology to basic library operations and functions. Moreover, they are trained to harness a range of bibliographical and online tools to support teaching, research and other services.

Graduates of this program are likewise expected to systematically organize, conserve, preserve and restore information objects (e.g, realia, museum, pieces), historical and cultural documents (e.g. artifacts, archival documents, indigenous knowledge), and other intellectual properties (creative ideas and works by individual and groups)
