Bicol College Shines Nationally at Sinebata Workshop 2026 with Award-Winning Young Filmmakers

Selected Elementary and Junior High School students of Bicol College showcased their creativity and passion during the three-day Sinebata Workshop 2026 held on April 17–19, 2026, at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center along UN Avenue, Manila. The workshop, sponsored by ANAKTV, carried the theme “Hear My Voice,” highlighting the importance of youth expression through film and media.

Participants aged 8 to 15 years old came from Bicol College, St. Paul University Surigao, and Star Worx TV5. Under the guidance of workshop facilitators Ms. Danie and Direk Paolo Ramos, the students were trained in storytelling, shooting, and basic filmmaking techniques. The sessions provided hands-on experience, allowing learners to explore their ideas and translate them into meaningful visual stories.

Throughout the workshop, students were given ample time to conceptualize and produce their own creative outputs, including short films, posters, and animations. They collaborated in teams, applying what they learned in crafting their projects—from story development to filming and editing. After completing their short films, their works were presented and evaluated by a panel of judges based on creativity, technical execution, and relevance to the theme.

During the graduation ceremony on the third day, winners in various categories were announced. Bicol College emerged as a standout participant, garnering multiple awards. The Elementary group’s short film “PASSION” earned Best Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Poster, while Rafael Kurt Merdegia, a Grade 6 student, received the Best Actor award. Meanwhile, the Junior High School group’s film “Kalinga ni Ina” also achieved remarkable success, winning Best Film, Best Production Design, and Best Editing, with Venice Kate Tolosa, a Grade 10 student, awarded Best Actress. The workshop concluded on a high note, leaving participants inspired and motivated. More than the awards, the students took home valuable lessons on the importance of passion, dedication, and perseverance in pursuing their dreams in the film industry. The Sinebata Workshop 2026 truly served as a platform for young voices to be heard and celebrated through the art of storytelling.
